Just because something can't be seen doesn't mean it's not there.
Freakishly tall and overweight, Lola Savullo doesn't fit in at home or at school. Her parents are "middle-aged teenagers," and her older sister is the queen of snark. Lola is a senior who's never been on a date, she and her best friend, Charlie, have been labeled lesbos. Now the cute boy she thought might—just might—possibly like her in return suddenly is hanging with the cool and cruel crowd.
But Lola has more than just Charlie's friendship; she has her Grandmother Rose. She also has a scary yet powerful new ability—to become invisible to those around her, just as she's longed for so often in the past.
Now Lola must decide whether to use her ability to teach the school's most evil bully a lesson while not losing herself in the process. The results will surprise both Lola and those around her when something unexpected happens that makes her glad to be seen.
Jeanne Bannon's debut novel, INVISIBLE, (Solstice Publishing, 2011) is filled with memorable characters and witty one liners as well as messages of strength and hope. Jeanne's skillful use of first-person present tense is the best example of this writing technique in a young-adult book, and INVISIBLE is a delightful and memorable read in all respects.

What an interesting premise for a novel! Becoming invisible. Think of the mischief. Lola's problems inspire sympathy. That can be such a cruel age to go through. The book sounds really interesting. Nice to discover a new author with such an original idea.
I agree with Elizabeth - she put it so well! This book looks really good!
(I'm already a follower and I already like your FB page. Alas, I don't tweet.)
Ooooh, it sounds marvelous. However, I refuse to read ebooks. I like my paper. -hugs book-
wow. I love that title, and I love that premise! Sounds like a great book. Good luck to Jeanne! :o) <3
Hi Michelle, thanks so much for posting your review of INVISIBLE and hosting the giveaway. I very much appreciate it!! :)
Elizabeth, Susanna, Brooke and LTM, thanks for stopping by for a read and for leaving a comment :D
I've got some news...INVISIBLE has just been released in paperback and is available at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Invisible-Jeanne-Bannon/dp/1466368756/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317920947&sr=8-1
Love the premise of this book! I always said if I could have any super power (supernatural power?) it would be invisibility. Imagine the possibilities...
And that cover is gorgeous!
@Elizabeth, one of the many things I love about Jeanne's book is seeing whether/how Lola will react to the potentiality of getting revenge.
@Susanna, I have you down for two points; good luck!
@Brooke, do we have good news for you; Invisible is scheduled to be out in trade paperback before the end of the year. :)
@LTM, what I especially love about Jeanne's book is it's something we've probably all wished for at one time or another in our lives, but Jeanne brings the idea to fruition beautifully, which I'm sure was no easy task.
@Jeanne, congratulations! I'm updating my post to reflect this great news.
@Jennifer, what would happen if one of your antagonists had this ability. Now that would be really CREEPy ...
I love the concept of this book! Sounds like a powerful read.
Lola is very relatable. Even the most upbeat girl has wished she could disappear occasionally. I once fell up a flight of stairs and mooned half of campus my Freshman year of college.
Lovely.
:0)
I think this would make a great book to be offered on school reading lists as well as for summer reading. Fun but relatable.
But no one asks me. :)))
YAY, Jeanne! I've read this book. I really liked it. It just hangs together really well; it appears effortless because it's so carefully crafted. I know Jeanne told me she wrote it fairly quickly. Well then, she must have an incredible gift. The book is very polished, there is no excess anywhere; it's a tidy package in the best sense. I was quite impressed. I've reviewed it for Goodreads, and I think also Amazon (I'll have to check the latter).
This is a great review, Michelle. I'm so glad you are featuring Jeanne's book.
Thanks so much, Jennifer. The idea of being invisible is one I very much like as well and it is my first choice as a super power!
Meredith, thanks so much for your kinds words :)
Ahhh Tirzah, leave it to you to moon half the campus, lol. But one wonders why you weren't wearing underpants, lol
Sheila, thank you, thank you, thank you for your more than generous comments. You always put a big smile on my face :D
I love the cover of this book! That alone makes me want to pick it up. And I already get a feel for Lola from the blurb. I bet a lot of people can relate to wanting to disappear at some point in their life. I know I can. Especially back in high school. Ugh!
Good luck with the book, Jeanne. It's sounds amazing. :D
Now Jeanne...I wore underpants put they were ...mmm...very brief and flesh colored so it didn't matter. What can I say I was young and clumsy. :)
@Meredith, it's a powerful message, and Jeanne does an incredible job of keeping the balance just right between strength and judicious levity.
@Tirzah, I thought the same thing, that this is the type of book high school students should be reading to help prevent and end bullying. But no, we have to read depressing things such as Albert Camus' The Stranger. (Ummm, can you tell I was so not impressed with that particular book?)
@Sheila, I felt the same way; the editors must have been delighted to receive such clean prose that said exactly what needed to be said, no more and no less.
@CherylAnne, I'm with you regarding the cover. But the one Tirzah Goodwin did blew me away; it's at http://beyondwordsblog.blogspot.com/2011/06/is-this-my-lola.html in case you'd like to see it.
Ahahaha! The image of Tirzah without any knickers is making me laugh. Though of course she as wearing some.
I remember when I was at university having my elastic-top nylons fall down to my ankles just as I was passing Marshall McLuhan's office full of students staring out the windows. If the medium truly is the message, god only know what message I was sending.
But it wasn't as exciting as mooning the campus!
On a more serious note, Jeanne's book really is full of clean prose, lots of laughter, and a meaningful theme. Or should I say "message".
Sorry for getting carried away. It's late. I think I'm lightheaded.
@Sheila, light headed or light hearted? Because your comment put a serious grin on my face. :)
Hi Michelle,

Hello Jeanne,
INVISIBLE sounds so interesting and intriguing. I've been chuckling all through the comments, oh how we would have loved to be invisible sometimes in High School!

Michelle, you've got one of the best blogs around!
@Denise, "poignant" is a beautiful word to apply to Invisible. I have you down for six points and truly appreciate the FB wall post and tweet on Jeanne's behalf. Good luck!
@Jeanne, I'm blushing with delight. :)
I'm too late for this, but it sounds wonderful. I would love to read this one--I love YA novels--so I will put it on my TBR list to buy when I get my next paycheck!
Thanks for stopping by, Michelle, just a while ago and cheering me on. You noticed my new template (well, it wasn't up for the earlier commenters). I really like it. Fortunately, I can't change templates the way I could on Blogger. Only a few will keep everything on the sidebar. But I think this one will be a keeper.
And as always, your encouragement of my current boost to keep me going. Thank you! You're a dear!!
Ann Best, Author of In the Mirror, A Memoir of Shattered Secrets
@Ann, Jeanne is scheduling a blog tour for Invisible for early November. That would be awesome if you were one of the stops, as I know your review of the book would be insightful.
Dark Angel - I like that title.
@Peaches, I'm with you that Dark Angel has that atmospheric juxtaposition with its words.
